Our current topic is Race.

Here is an interesting video I watched today about baby's and morality.

Born good? Babies help unlock the origins of morality

Neighbors: Can I borrow more than a cup of sugar?

The first topic we will explore is NEIGHBORS

Neighborhood Profiles

I want to encourage everyone to share a brief profile of their neighborhood (as defined by each individual).

These profiles can be in the form of a video, photo journal, poem, narrative, outline, map, etc.  You can post them here or bring it to class.

To give you an example, here is my neighborhood: Scism Rd NE, Silverton, Oregon

My neighbors include:
15 folks older than 60 years of age (at least 2 who are 80+)
9 families/couples
4 widow/ers
16 children (under 18 years old)
4 adult-children living at home with parents (over 18, under 40)
3 rental homes, the rest are resident-owned (to our knowledge)
7 non-residents who are either employed on a neighborhood farm full-time, tend to animals grazing in local pastures, or visit the neighbors enough to be counted.

Most of my neighbors speak English, but there are at least two whose primary language is Spanish. During the blueberry picking season, our road is a major hub for a local farmer. I think about 100 pickers come in on a regular basis for 6-8 weeks for picking.  There are at least 11 farms owned by people on or very close-by our road.

Additionally, we have neighbor critters who add to the personality of our neighborhood:
Beavers, mice, coyotes
Cranes, ducks, geese, doves, sparrows, robins, hawks
Horses, cows, pigs, dogs, goats
Chickens, turkeys, pheasants
